South Shore Press Video Vault: Hero SCPD Officer Brendon Gallagher Heads Home

A hero heads home.

This is the moving moment Suffolk County Police Department Officer Brendon Gallagher is released from Stony Brook University Hospital. The hero cop was critically injured in a car crash while pursuing a suspect on the Long Island Expressway.

“I just want to thank everyone for their support," said Gallagher, who left the hospital in a wheelchair surrounded by family, friends, fellow officers, health care providers, and the sound of bagpipes as he was discharged.

“He has a long road to recovery,” said Robert E. Waring, Acting Suffolk County Police Department Commissioner.

"Brendon is one tough kid," said Dr. James Vosswinkel, Stony Brook Hospital Chief of Division of Trauma, Emergency Surgery, and Surgical Critical Care.
