Brookhaven announces annual Keith Romaine Memorial Snapper Derby set for Sept. 8

The town of Brookhaven is partnering with the Montauk Surfcasters Association and the Chamber of Commerce of the Moriches to host the annual Keith Romaine Memorial Snapper Derby on Sept. 8. Councilwoman Karen Dunne Kesnig and Supervisor Dan Panico announced it on Aug. 17.

According to the Town of Brookhaven website, children up to 18 years old can participate in the event. Participants must bring their own fishing pole, bait, and bucket. Prizes will be awarded for different categories.

The snapper derby will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 8, according to the Town of Brookhaven website. It will be held at the Union Avenue Dock in Center Moriches.

Sign-ups must be made online at https://brookhaven-public.app.transform.civicplus.com/forms/34688 as no walk-ins will be allowed, according to the Town of Brookhaven website. A $5 per child donation to benefit the Joseph Rera Memorial Scholarship Fund will be collected at check-in on the event day. Call Kesnig's office at 631-451-6502 for more information.
