David Trent, a 19-year-old from Mastic Beach, has pleaded guilty to manslaughter and other charges related to a fatal shooting outside the Minx Nightclub in Farmingville and an armed robbery of a Lyft driver in Wading River. Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced the plea.

Trent was among 18 defendants indicted in December 2022 following an investigation into the criminal street organization "No Fake Love" or "NFL."

"This is the reason why I started the Violent Criminal Enterprises Bureau on my first day in office. Violence like this will not be tolerated in Suffolk County," said District Attorney Tierney. "This case should serve as a warning to those gang members who would seek to establish dominance by committing acts of violence in Suffolk County: we will find you and prosecute you to the fullest extent of the law."

Court documents and Trent's admissions during his plea allocution detail that on December 5, 2021, Trent and his associates were at the Minx nightclub parking lot when an argument with Jorge Mauricio Sevilla Barrera turned physical. Trent retrieved a firearm from his vehicle, shot Barrera, kicked him while he was on the ground, then shot him again, resulting in Barrera's death. Trent fired multiple shots from his vehicle as he fled the scene, injuring two additional victims.

On April 13, 2022, Trent and co-conspirators Shati Roy Jr. and Corey Foggy ordered a Lyft rideshare car in Wading River. During the trip, Roy struck the driver repeatedly while both he and Trent pointed guns at him. Foggy forcibly removed the driver from the vehicle before Roy drove off with Trent still inside. The incident was captured by a dashboard camera later recovered by investigators.

Trent pleaded guilty before Acting Supreme Court Justice Anthony S. Senft Jr. to:

- One count of Manslaughter in the First Degree

- Two counts of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree

- One count of Conspiracy to Commit Murder

- Two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree

- One count of Robbery in the First Degree

- One count of Grand Larceny in the Third Degree

He is due back in court on October 30, 2024, where he is expected to be sentenced to 28 years in prison followed by five years of post-release supervision. Christopher Gioe represents him.

Assistant District Attorneys Martha Duffy and Donald Barclay are prosecuting this case with District Attorney Investigator Jean Graf leading the investigation for Suffolk County District Attorney’s Gang Task Force.
