A civil rights lawsuit has been filed, alleging that NYPD police officers violated constitutional rights through a series of violent actions.

The complaint was filed by Taima Flores and S.L., on behalf of K.L., in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York on October 11, 2024, against the City of New York and several NYPD officers. The plaintiffs accuse the officers of unlawful search and seizure, assault, battery, and excessive force during an incident on July 13, 2023.

The lawsuit claims that the New York City Police Department, under the administration of Eric Adams, has engaged in violent actions since 2021. On July 13, 2023, NYPD officers allegedly assaulted Ms. Flores and K.L., both minors at the time. The plaintiffs state that while riding bicycles near Lexington Avenue in Brooklyn, they encountered officers detaining their friends. After being instructed to step back from a metal fence near their handcuffed friends, Ms. Flores was allegedly grabbed and choked by Detective Kenneth Rambert. Sergeant Damany Ferril allegedly threw K.L., causing injuries.

The plaintiffs are seeking compensatory and punitive damages for violations of their Fourth and Fourteenth Amendment rights under the U.S. Constitution, as well as federal claims under 42 U.S.C. §1983 and state laws. They also request attorney fees and other relief deemed appropriate by the court.

The plaintiffs are represented by LLIAKAS LAW P.C The case ID is: 24 CV 7162.
