Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced the sentencing of Abraham Crosby, 50, to 14 to 16 years in prison for assault, strangulation, and related charges. The decision follows a bench trial where Crosby was found guilty of attacking his girlfriend and her roommate.

District Attorney Tierney stated, "This defendant’s sustained and remorseless assault of the victims here is unconscionable and unacceptable," emphasizing that domestic violence cannot be tolerated. He praised law enforcement's efforts in protecting the victims and community from further harm by Crosby.

The incident occurred on September 21, 2023, when Crosby entered his girlfriend's apartment in Patchogue while intoxicated and under the influence of drugs. An argument ensued during which Crosby strangled his girlfriend until she lost consciousness. When her roommate intervened, he stabbed her in the back, puncturing a lung. After regaining consciousness, the girlfriend attempted to flee but was slashed on the head by Crosby with a knife, resulting in a severe laceration requiring staples. The victims sought help from a neighbor after Crosby fled. Police later arrested him nearby and found metal knuckles in his possession.

Crosby has a prior conviction as a level three sex offender due to a 2006 charge of Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the Second Degree.

On September 26, 2024, Acting Supreme Court Justice Anthony S. Senft Jr. convicted Crosby on multiple charges: two counts of Assault in the Second Degree; one count each of Strangulation in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon; Criminal Obstruction of Breathing or Blood Circulation; and two counts of Assault in the Third Degree.

Crosby received his sentence on November 6, 2024, which includes five years of post-release supervision. He represented himself at trial with Christopher Brocato serving as his legal advisor.
