New Flavor Spices up Setauket

Community and business leaders celebrate the official grand opening of Ixchel Mexican Cuisine. | Facebook.com

There’s a big-time spice of Mexican flavor in the old “Old Fields Tavern" in Setauket, as a new restaurant is calling 130 Old Town Road its new home.

A laundry list of local officials were on hand for the official grand opening of Ixchel Mexican Cuisine. Brookhaven Supervisor Dan Panico was on hand, along with Suffolk County Legislator Steve, New York State Assemblyman Ed Flood, representatives from the Three Village Chamber of Commerce, and the Port Jefferson Station/Terryville Chamber of Commerce.

“I was proud to be on hand, on behalf of the Town of Brookhaven, to welcome this beautiful family and wish them continued success in their new local business,” said Supervisor Panico.

Owners of the new restaurant, Juan and Daphnee Munar, were inspired by Ixchel: the Mayan Moon Goddess, who is believed to be a powerful influence over moon cycles, rainfall, medicine, and even fertility.
