One of the key figures in the redevelopment of the booming Patchogue downtown is former village trustee and Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce Director David Kennedy, who was recognized by Senator Dean Murray last week with the state Senate Empire Award.

Serving as chamber director for the last 10 years, Kennedy was also a long-standing civic leader instrumental in the Patchogue Riverfront Redevelopment. He’s been an asset to the chamber with his knowledge of the Greater Patchogue area with a mission to develop new programs that benefit the members and the community.

“The Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce is one that has been wildly successful, helping to create an incredibly vibrant and active business community, and much of that success is due to the efforts of their executive director, David Kennedy,” Senator Murray said. “As the Ranking Minority member of the Senate's Commerce, Economic Development and Small Business committee, and a small business owner myself, I truly enjoy working with the many business leaders throughout the 3rd Senate District,” Murray continued. “Many times, those same business leaders serve on the Boards of their local Chambers of Commerce, helping to promote and grow their local business communities.”

Murray added, "In addition to him being a driving force in the business community, he's also an all-around great guy." The Empire Award, the Senate’s highest honor for small businesses, is presented to local leaders who exemplify a dedication not only to customers and employees, but to their communities and New York State at large.
