Trump Being Blocked from the Ballot

My family fled a communist regime and came to America in 1965 to live in the greatest nation on earth to experience the God-given freedoms found in our Constitution.

They could not speak freely, worship openly, nor vote in free and fair elections.

In America “We the People" independently choose public servants from local dog catcher to President. This is what separates us from filthy, freedom hating savages who despise democracy.

It’s a clear line between the “good guys” and the “bad guys.” There’s us, the “shining city on a hill” that is a beacon of light to the rest of the world, compared to the dark deeds of those who rig elections and prop up puppet governments by secretly picking who leads.

Unfortunately our democracy is on the precipice of becoming no different than the same repressive regime my family fled.

There are now 14 states that are pursuing litigation or legislation to stop former President Donald Trump from appearing on the 2024 presidential ballot. Their flimsy, hyper-partisan rationale? The 45th President engaged in an insurrection on January 6th, so is therefore ineligible to hold federal office based on the 14th Amendment.

The intent of the 14th Amendment was to stop Confederate soldiers from serving in Congress or the White House.

The unelected Secretary of State of Maine, Democrat and Biden supporter Shenna Bellows, unilaterally blocked Trump from their ballot. One woman wants to disenfranchise 294,501 Republican primary voters in the Pine Tree State from casting a ballot for Donald Trump.

Four Democratic judges in Colorado ruled Trump cannot appear on their ballot, with that ruling being placed on a “rocket docket” straight for the Supreme Court.

Here in the People’s Republic of New York, five state senators wrote to the State Board of Elections, demanding President Trump be blocked from primary and general ballots.

This threat to democracy comes on the heels of Trump and 18 of his associates, including many of his lawyers, being criminally charged in Georgia. Political prosecutor Fani Willis, a Democrat, levied the felony charges (racketeering, forgery, filing false statements, and violating the oath of a public officer) for Trump exercising free speech by presenting legal challenges to circumstances surrounding the certification of the 2020 election.

Unelected bureaucrats with an ugly agenda put personal politics ahead of protecting and preserving our democracy. They will stop at nothing to block President Trump from running again.

If Republicans pulled the same power grab that trampled our Constitution by removing Joe Biden from ballots, right leaning thinkers should be just as outraged.

My immigrant grandparents would be appalled. They saw firsthand the horrors and consequences of concentrated political power in the hands of a select few.

They are rolling in their graves that some in our nation want to turn America into an oppressive regime.

Our democracy now depends on checks and balances that exist only because our Founding Fathers had the foresight to establish the Supreme Court with the creation of the Judiciary Act of 1789.

Ultimately the Supreme Court will overturn these unconstitutional attacks and restore our elections to exactly what they’re supposed to be: one person, one vote, with leaders chosen freely by the people.

All of us.
