Army Veteran David Mann of Patchogue has been named to the state Senate’s Veterans Hall of Fame by Senator Dean Murray. His stellar military career was recognized during a special ceremony at VFW Post 2913.

Mann served in the United States Army from 1968 to 1974 and retired with the rank of Sergeant. He was a combat engineer and was the recipient of two Purple Hearts for missions in South Vietnam. He was awarded three Army Commendations with “V” devices for heroism and was presented with the Conspicuous Service Medal from former Governor Mario Cuomo in 1985. The "V" devices denote acts of heroism above what is normally expected while engaged in direct combat.

“It was my privilege to honor Mr. Mann as my nominee to the Senate Veterans Hall of Fame,” Murray said at the ceremony. “Sergeant Mann and the men and women like him who served in our nation’s military services deserve our utmost respect. I thank David Mann for his service to our country and protecting the rights and freedoms of the citizens of the United States of America.”
