In a surprising development, President Joe Biden's campaign team has amassed a higher follower count on Truth Social, the social media platform created by former President Donald Trump, than Trump's campaign team. This unexpected turn of events is making waves in the political arena.

As of the latest tally, Biden's campaign account on Truth Social, identified by the handle @BidenHQ, boasts approximately 27,900 followers, surpassing Trump's campaign account, @TeamTrump, which has around 23,600 followers. Notably, Trump's account, @realDonaldTrump, maintains a substantial following, with over 6.45 million followers.

A touch of humor characterized the decision by the Biden campaign team to join Truth Social. They explained that their motivation for joining the platform was primarily because they found it "very funny." This unexpected move comes after a prior statement to Axios in May, where a campaign official had indicated they would not be joining Trump's social media venture.

Truth Social, launched by Donald Trump in February 2022, is a conservative alternative to mainstream social media platforms. The former president's initiative followed his bans from major platforms like Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube after the January 6 Capitol siege. Despite its initial buzz, Truth Social currently reports an estimated 2 million active users, a fraction of the user base on platforms like Facebook.

When asked about their decision to join Truth Social, the Biden campaign team likened it to "entering the lion's den" to highlight what they perceive as Republican hypocrisy. They also wanted to have some lighthearted fun at their own expense. The campaign's digital rapid response team, Biden-Harris HQ, posted on the platform, "We just joined Truth Social, mostly because we thought it would be very funny."

The Biden campaign did not shy away from poking fun at Truth Social, suggesting that the platform primarily serves as an outlet for Donald Trump's rants. Trump's account on Truth Social remains active, with over 6.45 million followers.

In their inaugural post on Truth Social, the Biden campaign humorously stated, "Well. Let's see how this goes. Converts welcome!" The account description reads, "Just the facts, Jack. A project of Biden-Harris 2024."

This unexpected development of Biden's campaign surpassing Trump's in Truth Social followers highlights the evolving landscape of political engagement in the digital age. It remains to be seen how this dynamic will influence the political discourse on the platform in the future.
