Shoreham-Wading River's Gordon Votruba is the Suffolk County League VII MVP.

Votruba's stats jumped off the page this season both with the bat, but especially with his pitching prowess. Votruba amassed a 5-2 record on the hill to go along with his 1.65 ERA. In his 46 innings pitched he struck out 52 batters and his pinpoint control led to him walking on 3 batters all season long.

Votruba's season hit it's pinnacle in early May when he pitched a no hitter against Glenn. In that effort he struck out 12 and was one hit batsman away from a perfect game. He also had three hits in that game and on the season he was almost as proficient with the bat as he was on the mound. He finished the season with a .439 batting average to go along with a .667 slugging percentage. He slugged 7 doubles, 2 triples, and added one home run with 29 RBIs.

In addition to Votruba winning the league MVP award he also has been selected as a finalist for the Carl Yastrzemski award. The Yastrzemski award is given each year to the most outstanding baseball player in Suffolk County. He would join a prestigious list of winners from Shoreham-Wading River. In 1987 Keith Osik took home the honor. Then in 2012 Mike O'Reilly won the award and most recently Brian Morell took home the trophy in back to back seasons in 2016 and 2017.Suffolk has been giving out the award for 56 years.
