Long Island's Defensive MVP

Although football season is a few months away, New Yorkers were treated to a great preview of the upcoming season this past week. The 2024 Rising Stars Bowl pits the best of New York City against the best of Long Island in a showcase of the best football talent of the junior class.

Of all that great talent, one name stood above the rest, Bellport's Trey'von Holland. Holland is a 6 foot, 230 pound linebacker that has been described as one of the best run stoppers in the state and one of it's hardest hitters. Holland won the Defensive MVP of the game award making everyone take notice for next season.

Holland was praised by the Bellport Football X account saying " (he) showcased his leadership, speed playing in the box and coverage for 4 quarters." Although NYC defeated the Island 7-0, it was a great showcase for Holland.

Last season was a breakout year and this season he will have all eyes on him as his stock continues to soar. His stats read like something you would see on a Madden video game for the 2023 season. In just 9 games, he amassed 96 tackles, 63 of them being solo tackles, 6 tackles for a loss, 2 forced fumbles, 1 sack and even added a blocked punt. Holland also puts the work in for his school work with a 3.0 GPA.

The Rising Stars Bowl game was a preview of what is to come for this season and that should have every Bellport fan really excited to see Holland continue his rise to stardom. There is no doubt that he has already impressed the more than 20 college coaches from different universities that were in attendance, but we get to enjoy watching him on the Island for one more season.
