Badminton's Championship Stays in the Family

Half Hollow Hills were handed several honors at the Suffolk County Championships for badminton this week.

Emilie Grand Pierre took 3rd place in Girls Singles while Neena Paulson and Allison Park also took 3rd place in Girls Doubles. Not to be outdone, the boys squad saw Niyanth Ponnusamy and Justin Roberts become County Champions in Boys Doubles.

After that, all eyes were on defending champion Rajveer Gujral. Gujral beat Smithtown East’s Ben Felber to secure his second consecutive County Champion in Boys Singles, and his teammate Brian Yun took 3rd place.

It has been nothing but awards for Gujral since he lost to his brother, Jaiveer, in the finals when he was just an eighth grader and a freshman. The championship trophy has now said the name Gujral on it for four straight years. His father was a national player in India and the great badminton traits certainly were handed down to both brothers.
