Help Us Juan, You're Our Only Hope

As another October presses on, New York Yankees fans are forced to watch what could have been in full throttle in front of their faces. In many ways those Yankee faithful are watching Brian Cashman's biggest failure on a grand stage and it incites an already angry fanbase. Bryce Harper should have been a Yankee.

When Bryce Harper was a free agent, just a few years ago, he was already a superstar and a lifelong Yankee fan. He had expressed since his teenage years, and never hid from the comments that he made where one of his professional goals was to wear the pinstripes. Instead Brian Cashman openly stated that signing Harper was out of the question, he never even made a call or offer, and Harper playing first base was simply not a reality. Fast forward just a few years and Harper has an MVP, a World Series, a Hall of Fame trajectory of a career and he is now a first baseman. With all eyes in the Yankee universe squarely on Cashman's job security, the Yankees inept 2023 season, and Harper playing big time baseball in clutch spots, how can Cashman save face? There is only one answer ... go get Juan Soto.

Soto is not the end all, be all, but he will be for the disgruntled Yankee fan. The Bombers have to flex their muscle this offseason and remind everyone who they are. Juan Soto can do that. Soto is insanely young for his already stellar accomplishments. He can play the field, and has all the hitting qualities New York needs. What he also has is a patient approach at the play, a lefty bat in the middle of the order, and a name that can make fans see that Cashman means business.

Bringing Soto on won't be easy, and an extension won't be cheap, but he is worth it. The Yankees, or more so Cashman, dropped the ball on Machado and Harper, he can't drop the ball on Soto. Now is the time to show the world what the Evil Empire can do, and forget the small Josh Donaldson type moves. Go get the big prize, New York deserves it.
