Benjamin Sheen-Waltzer, a 32-year-old resident of Southampton, has been indicted for leaving the scene of an incident without reporting and tampering with physical evidence. The charges stem from an alleged incident where Sheen-Waltzer is accused of striking and killing Angel Asitimbay, 67, of Hampton Bays, with his truck in a residential neighborhood.

Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced the indictment, emphasizing the seriousness of the case. "The indictment handed down today reflects the gravity of this tragic and preventable loss of life," said Tierney. He further stated that "our streets and roadways are shared spaces where pedestrians have every right to feel safe. The defendant’s alleged actions show a complete disregard for human life and the basic principle that our roadways belong to everyone, drivers and pedestrians alike."

The investigation revealed that on March 6, 2024, at around 5:00 p.m., Sheen-Waltzer allegedly hit Asitimbay with his 2024 GMC pickup truck. At the time of the impact, Asitimbay was walking on a residential roadway pushing a shopping cart filled with glass bottles and cans. The incident occurred just south of Neptune Avenue on Springville Road when Sheen-Waltzer allegedly struck Asitimbay from behind.
