Smithtown honors firefighter James Shellock with procession

Timothy Duckham Chief of Department | Smithtown Fire Department

On August 19, a tribute was held for Firefighter and Paramedic James Shellock in Smithtown. Family and friends gathered to honor his memory. The day included a funeral mass at St. Patrick's Church, followed by a procession that passed by his family home, Engine Co. 4's station on Plaisted Avenue, and the Main Firehouse on Elm Avenue. At the Main House, an arch was raised as Shellock was brought past the firehouse one last time.

The Chiefs, Officers, and Members expressed their gratitude to the Smithtown community for their patience during this period of mourning. They acknowledged the road closures and detours implemented to allow for a fitting tribute to Shellock's service as both a firefighter and paramedic.

"Several road closures and detours around town" were necessary "to give a fitting tribute to a Firefighter and Paramedic who gave us and the community so much," they stated.

Photographs from the event were provided by Andrew Brofman.
