In a recent session of the US House of Representatives, Rep. Nick LaLota (NY-1) emphasized the importance of federal investments in research and education. He highlighted Stony Brook University as an example of how such investments can drive innovation and progress.

Rep. LaLota's remarks come at a critical time as the United States seeks to maintain its technological leadership globally. He stressed the need for "strong investments in research and education," citing Stony Brook as "a prime example of the extraordinary advancements that come from such support." The congressman further noted, "Stony Brook’s role as a quantum internet testbed and its status as a hub of transformative research demonstrates the immense potential of continued federal investments in higher education."

Following his address, national higher education and research associations, including the Association of American Universities (AAU) and the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities (APLU), expressed gratitude on social media for his focus on federally sponsored university research. SBU Interim President Richard McCormick also thanked Rep. LaLota for being "a steadfast champion for science" and ensuring that institutions like Stony Brook continue to foster innovation.
