Long Time Law Enforcement Officers Retire

They have a combined service of 75 years and this week, the Suffolk County Police Department said goodbye to retiring Chief of Detectives Darrel Simmons and Chief of Operations Michael Romagnoli.

Both have had distinguished careers serving the people of Suffolk County.

Chief Simmons began his career with the department in 1987. He started in the Fifth Precinct and served in a number of commands including Crime Scene Section, Identification Section, Anti-Crime Enforcement Section, Emergency Service Section, Arson Section, Special Investigations Section and Office of the Chief of Department. He was appointed Chief of Detectives in 2024.

Chief of Operations Michael Romagnoli began his law enforcement career in 1987 with NYPD before becoming a SCPD officer in 1991. He started in the Sixth Precinct and served in many commands including Internal Affairs, Marine Bureau, Office of the Chief of Patrol, Commanding Officer of Homeland Security and Criminal Intelligence Bureau, and the Fourth Precinct. He was appointed Chief of Operations in 2023.
