Jeremy Pelaez, a fifth-grade student in Sandra Bretton’s art class at the William Floyd Learning Center, was recently selected as a second-place winner in the inaugural “Brookhaven Recycles” poster contest.
For his efforts, Jeremy received a framed copy of his poster and a certificate congratulating him on this accomplishment.
His poster was also displayed at Brookhaven Town Hall and will be featured on their website, social media, and in the winter edition of Brookhaven’s Green Gazette newsletter.
Student artists were presented with two themes for their posters – “Recycle Every Day!” and “Stop Litter!” Both themes prompt students to think about everyday recyclable items and to be more careful when discarding trash.
Using these themes as a guide, student artists worked hard on creating their posters for the contest. Each poster was unique and colorful, with the Town of Brookhaven recycling mascot Curby being a popular inclusion.
The following William Floyd students submitted their work including eight students from Sandra Bretton’s class at the William Floyd Learning Center including Jeremy Pelaez, Elijah Ross, Ethan Ross, Liam Cordova Once, Preslee Ancona, Riley DeMillio, Travis Hamilton, and Aliyah Amaya.
There were also 16 students from Amanda Maertz’s class at Moriches Elementary School including Felicia Rubino, Justin Campoverde, Nakaeyah Gordon, Skylar Mayes, Paola Llivizupa, Simina Johnson, Brandon Narvaez Reyes, Jennifer Menijivar Galicia, Bailey Basile, William Rodemeyer, Violet Nguyen, Zachary Tucker, Emmerson Munoz, Faith Rothar, Emma Russo and Solana Lopez.
