William Floyd High School students perform national anthem at legislative meeting

Three students from William Floyd High School's Acabellas performed the national anthem at a Suffolk County Legislature meeting on February 4. Aisling Aylward, Aisha Barrie, and Ashlyn Manion sang "The Star-Spangled Banner" under the guidance of Michelle Seifert, music educator and co-director of the Acabellas. Seifert shares her directorial role with Donia Rivera.

Legislator Jim Mazzarella extended the invitation to these talented student-musicians. The performance was well-received and highlighted their musical abilities.

Aisling Aylward, a senior, is active in the school's Youth and Government program as a justice. She is one of ten seniors receiving an AP Capstone Diploma for academic excellence. Musically, she has represented William Floyd at various prestigious festivals and serves as vice president of The Acabellas. Her future plans include pursuing a medical degree to become a pathologist.

Aisha Barrie, also a senior, has been involved in music for eight years, singing and playing the flute. She recently participated in the All-State Conference treble choir and is involved in all-county groups. As president of The Acabellas, she balances her passion for music with interests in math and government club activities. She aims to study actuarial science.

Ashlyn Manion has been part of William Floyd's music program since fourth grade. Her festival participation includes events organized by the Suffolk County Music Educators Association and New York State School Music Association. In 2024, she joined the mixed choir at the New York State Council of Administrators of Music Education. Additionally, she was nominated for a Teeny Award during the 2023-2024 school musical season. She holds positions as public relations officer and librarian within The Acabellas.
