Sachem Athletic Hall of Famer Rick Mercurio was elected to the World Lacrosse Board of Directors during the organization’s 2025 General Assembly. Mercurio fills one of two open Strategic Director positions, marking another significant milestone in his distinguished career in the sport.

Since retiring from Sachem, Mercurio’s involvement in lacrosse has expanded dramatically on the global stage. Over more than 14 years of service with World Lacrosse, he has played a pivotal role in expanding the organization’s reach from 35 to 95 member nations. His efforts have focused on growing the game, developing emerging programs, and creating opportunities for athletes and coaches around the world.

Mercurio’s election is a point of pride for the Sachem community, which continues to celebrate his accomplishments. The Sachem social media team shared a congratulatory message following the announcement, writing, “Thanks for making us proud, Coach!” His continued success reflects the lasting influence of his leadership and dedication to the sport of lacrosse.
