The William Floyd High School boys’ varsity wrestling team recently participated in the Suffolk County Championships, achieving notable success. Under the guidance of head coach Tony Mecca, ten student-athletes from the school competed, with Josiah Lors emerging as the overall county champion in the 215 lbs category. The team secured a ninth-place finish among 41 teams with a total score of 80.5 points.

Josiah Lors led his team by becoming William Floyd's first Suffolk County champion in two decades. He won the finals in his weight class by an 8-1 decision and has had a dominant season with an impressive record of 41-1. His performance throughout various competitions and tournaments also earned him a League I championship earlier this month.

This victory has qualified Josiah for the New York State Championships, which will be held at MVP Arena in Albany, NY this weekend. Head coach Tony Mecca expressed confidence in Josiah's abilities: "Congratulations to Josiah on this fantastic achievement and best of luck at states!"

In addition to Lors' success, Jack Meyer finished fourth and David Gonzalez fifth in their respective categories at the county championships. The team's other participants included David Barrera (116 lbs.), Caleb Holmes (124 lbs.), Jayvyn Johnson (138 lbs.), Aaron Land (170 lbs.), Antonio Martin (160 lbs.), Rob Martinez (265 lbs.), and Ryan Murtha (138 lbs.).

Coach Mecca commended all participants for their efforts: "Additional congratulations go out to all of the following student-athletes that competed in the county championships."

The William Floyd High School wrestling community is proud of its athletes' achievements and looks forward to further successes at state-level competitions.
