Richard L. McCormick, Interim President | Stony Brook University

Stony Brook University recently honored its employees who have served for 25 years or more with a Service Recognition Luncheon. The event, held on February 27 at the Bauman Center for Leadership and Service, celebrated the dedication of 465 staff members. Among these, three individuals marked an impressive milestone of 55 years of service.

Interim President Richard L. McCormick expressed his appreciation to the honorees, stating: “Those of you who are gathered in this room today shape our university into the best it can be. Through your dedication to excellence and service to our students, Stony Brook keeps getting better and better.” He added that their contributions were crucial to Stony Brook’s status as New York's top public university.

McCormick also emphasized the unique culture at Stony Brook University: “Like many other outstanding universities, ours is filled with smart, determined, and driven individuals, but here at Stony Brook, they have each others’ backs. Our Stony Brook culture of support and gratitude is unique. I noticed it immediately when I arrived here, and I continue to cherish it every day — as I know you do.”

The employees recognized for 55 years of service include Sherry Chang, William Huebsch, and Kenneth Short. Those celebrating 50 years include Mark Aronoff and several others. The list continues with numerous employees commemorating between 45 to 25 years of service.
