Hundreds rallied in Hauppauge last week to call on the state to increase funding for programs serving people with disabilities. The South Shore Press Man on the Street was there to hear what the people had to say.

“The people, through their government, should attend to those less fortunate. The state needs to provide an increase in the budget for not-for-profits which exist to benefit people with intellectual disabilities.”—John Aicher, Jr., Rockville Centre

“It’s important to keep up these services for all of the people who rely on them. We are fortunate to have them.”—Maurice Finch—Hauppauge

“I appreciate everyone advocating for the services that give many people a higher quality of life.”—Bruce Fenster, Seaford

“It’s disgraceful that they want to hold back a single penny for these individuals. They should be adding much, much more.”—Erica Scarangella, Centereach

“We need to be responsible for individuals with different abilities.”—Stacy Berman, Lake Grove

“This is more about people and less about funding. This is a lifeline for many people. It’s appalling for any administration not to advocate with developmental disabilities.”—Stephanie Volpe, Holbrook
