Jimmie Vaughan Blues to Cruise into Patchogue Theatre

"Playing what you feel has always been my main goal,” said Vaughan. | Patchogue Theatre

Ahead of hosting a who’s who of “Sesame Street” muppets this Friday night, the Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts announced it will play host to Jimmie Vaughan and the Tilt-A-Whirl Band on Sunday, August 17.

The highly anticipated show will go off at 7 p.m. Tickets are currently in the $46-$86 price range. They can be purchased in person at 71 East Main Street in Patchogue, by phone at (631) 207-1313, or online at patchoguetheatre.org.

“When it comes to the blues today, there are a handful of guiding lights to make sure the music stays true to its history. For Jimmie Vaughan, he’s dedicated his life to making sure the blues not only stays alive, but remains full of life and an inspiration to all who listen," the Theatre writes in a statement.

"It’s a spirit he holds close to him, and for almost 60 years, Vaughan isn’t about to stop now,” the Theatre wrote in a statement.

The four-time Grammy Award Winner opened for the legend Jimi Hendrix at just 16 years old. He was heavily influenced by earlier musical greats such as B.B. King, Muddy Waters, Albert King and Freddie King, among others.

Vaughan hitchhiked to Austin, Texas in the early 1970s, where he helped keep the blues train rolling during a cataclysmic shift in music and the culture at large.

His Fabulous Thunderbirds debut album “Girls Go Wild” was released in 1979. Some years later, he broke off and, together with his late brother, fellow guitar-playing sensation Stevie Ray, recorded and released “Family Style” — a revolutionary work held in high esteem within the industry.

Epic Records released Jimmie’s first solo effort in the early 1990s. “I wanted to find out what I could really do,” Vaughan said,  “and when I started singing it gave me a whole new side to explore. When I was young I didn’t really pay much attention to categories of music. I just heard what I liked and decided to explore that and that’s really whatI‘m still doing.”

Box Office Hours at the Patchogue Theatre to pick up your Jimmie Vaughan tickets are Wednesday—Sunday from 12 to 6 p.m.

The historic crown jewel of downtown Patchogue first opened in 1923. It underwent a $1.15 million interior overhaul in 2016.

Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit arts organization. Their mission: to enrich, educate, and entertain a diverse audience by cultivating and showcasing a broad variety of performing artists.
