Price Rite Marketplace accused of selling defective pressure cooker that caused severe burns

A lawsuit has been filed against PRRC, Inc., operating as Price Rite Marketplace of Bethlehem, alleging that products from its popular line of pressure cookers are unsafe.

According to the lawsuit filed by plaintiff Afia Glover, she was severely burned on April 9, 2022, while operating an "Instant Pot Duo 60 v3" pressure cooker. According to the complaint, the pressure cooker was marketed and sold by Price Rite but was designed and manufactured by Instant Brands, LLC. The lawsuit highlights that despite being advertised as safe due to its "safety features," the product had a critical defect allowing the lid to be removed while still under pressure. This flaw led to scalding contents being ejected from the device, resulting in Glover's injuries. The plaintiff argues that Price Rite knew or should have known about these defects but continued selling the product without adequate warnings or recalls.

Glover's attorneys argue that Price Rite failed in its duty of care by marketing and distributing a defective product that posed unreasonable risks to consumers. They asserted that safer alternative designs were available and accused Price Rite of prioritizing profits over consumer safety. Glover is demanding a jury trial and seeks compensatory and punitive damages for physical injuries, medical expenses, lost wages, and diminished quality of life.

The plaintiff is represented by attorneys Randi Kassan from Milberg Coleman Bryson Phillips Grossman, LLC, and Adam J. Kress with Anna R. Rick from Johnson Becker, PLLC. The case was filed in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York under case ID 1:25-cv-1663.
