MarineMax in Huntington is inviting local boaters to participate in an in-person New York State Boating Safety Course on Saturday, April 26, 2025, providing an essential opportunity to earn the New York Safe Boating Certificate required by Brianna’s Law.

With the final phase of Brianna’s Law going into effect in 2025, all operators of motorized vessels in New York must complete a certified boating safety course. This upcoming class offers boaters the chance to get certified before the summer season begins.

In 2019, Governor Cuomo signed Brianna's Law, a comprehensive boater education law requiring all power boaters (including those operating sailing vessels with auxiliary power) to complete a boater safety course that was phased in over the last few years. This year, the fullness of the law goes into effect requiring all powerboat operators regardless of age to have a boating safety certificate.

Brianna's Law is named after Brianna Lieneck, an 11-year-old Long Island girl who was killed in a 2005 boating accident.

Certified instructors lead the course that provides hands-on, comprehensive training on topics including navigation rules, emergency procedures, and responsible boating practices. Upon successful completion, participants will receive their New York Safe Boating Certificate.

The class gives boaters all they need to meet the compliance requirements to meet the upcoming state mandate. It also promotes safer waterways through proper education and reflects MarineMax Huntington’s commitment to supporting and educating the local boating community.
