Suffolk County Police Fifth Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a man walking in the street in Bluepoint Saturday night.

Law enforcement reports that Adam Polis was driving a 2015 Ford Mustang eastbound in the left lane of Sunrise Highway, west of Waverly Avenue, when he saw three people in the roadway.

According to cops, the driver tried swerving to the right to avoid hitting the three people walking on the road.

At approximately 8:35 PM that night, police said the vehicle Polis was driving struck Carlos Villafane, who was in the center lane.

Villafane, 69, of Mastic Beach, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Polis, 36, of Patchogue, the other two pedestrians, and a passenger in the Mustang were not injured.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552.
