SWR Lacrosse Host Lax Out Cancer

Dan Panico address SWR crowd | brookhavenny.gov

This week before the Shoreham-Wading River vs. Comsewogue lacrosse game the Shoreham-Wading River High School community came together for the 16th Annual Lax Out Cancer fundraiser. The event is dedicated to supporting local families impacted by cancer.

This year's special guests on hand included Brookhaven Town Supervisor Dan Panico and Wounded Army Warrior John Fernandez. They emphasized the unwavering dedication of the community to making a meaningful difference.

Panico spoke to the crowd and said he was proud to be in front of people "Who cared so much about other people, and no one should face cancer alone, nor should their family." He then donated $1,000 for the event.

There were also five local families battling cancer chosen as beneficiaries of the event’s fundraising efforts. The event had many different ways that they helped which included donations, raffles, and community participation. The initiative continues to provide financial and emotional support to those in need.

Beyond the game, attendees enjoyed a day filled with raffles, food, music, and entertainment. The Lax Out Cancer initiative, which began in 2009, has become a cherished tradition, bringing together athletes, families, and supporters in the fight against cancer.
