Councilwoman Bonner hosts record-breaking recycling event in Mount Sinai

Michael Loguercio Council District 4 | Town of Brookhaven

On Saturday, May 31, Councilwoman Jane Bonner organized a Special Recycling Event at the Rose Caracappa Senior Center in Mount Sinai. The event attracted a record number of residents focused on environmentally responsible disposal practices.

The recycling event ran from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM and provided a convenient drop-off point for paper, cardboard, electronics, and unwanted or expired medications. A total of 615 vehicles participated, marking the highest attendance for one of Councilwoman Bonner's recycling events.

By the end of the day, participants had shredded 16,300 pounds of paper and recycled 11,280 pounds of electronic waste. Additionally, they turned in 15 boxes of unused or expired medications for safe disposal.

Councilwoman Bonner expressed her gratitude to everyone involved. “I’m so proud of how our residents came together to make this event such a success,” said Bonner. “These efforts not only help protect our environment but also show how strong our community is when we work together toward a common goal.”

Suffolk County Sheriff’s deputies were present to assist with medication disposal and manage traffic flow from Route 25A. Their support was crucial in ensuring the event ran smoothly.

The Town of Brookhaven has scheduled additional recycling events throughout 2025. More information can be found at BrookhavenNY.gov/Recycle.
