The Islip Chamber of Commerce Street Fair returns to Main Street on Sunday, June 22, celebrating its 25th anniversary with live music, more than 150 vendors, food trucks and family-friendly attractions aimed at drawing visitors to support local businesses.

“We get over one thousand people. It gets pretty crowded,” Chamber President Liz Mayott told South Shore Press.

The event is intended to support the downtown area’s shops and restaurants.

“It’s bringing people into our town and helping the businesses,” Mayott said.

This year’s fair will include more than 150 vendors offering “all different types of merchandise,” along with “quite a few nonprofits” providing information about their services, including the American Legion and suicide prevention organizations.

A variety of food trucks will also be on-site to serve fairgoers, with options such as barbecue and sausage, she said.

For children, several bouncy houses will be available.

Live music is scheduled to begin at noon at Main Street and Union Avenue. Due to a scheduling conflict with Tradewinds, the band Souls On Board will perform this year. The Long Island cover band, active since 2009, is expected to play a mix of classic rock, funk, soul, reggae and more.

The fair will be held rain or shine from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., starting at South Bay Avenue.

Although the event is organized by the Islip Chamber of Commerce, several agencies contribute to its success.

“We thank the Town of Islip, Third Precinct, Islip Fire Department and EMS of the Islips for supporting us. It’s a great day,” Mayott said.

Sponsors include Northwell South Shore University Hospital and Catholic Health Good Samaritan Nursing & Rehabilitation.

In addition to helping organize the event, Mayott said she genuinely looks forward to attending each year.

“I love festivals,” she said. “I love to browse and see all the vendors and support our businesses. What I love about this street fair is I get to see a lot of people I haven’t seen in a while. I thrive on it.”
