Smithtown firefighters respond to residential blaze on Landing Avenue

At around 15:30, the Smithtown Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire on Landing Avenue. Upon arrival, firefighters found a significant blaze affecting the first and second floors and the attic.

Firefighters launched an aggressive interior attack to contain the fire to its origin. About 75 firefighters participated in the response, including units from Smithtown Fire Department and Smithtown Fire-Medic Company. Assistance came from Kings Park, Commack, Hauppauge, Nesconset, Nissequogue, and Central Islip Fire Departments, along with Commack Ambulance and Stony Brook Ambulance.

One firefighter suffered minor injuries but was treated at the scene. The fire was controlled in approximately an hour and a half under Assistant Chief Palazzo's leadership and Chief of Department Daniel Dongvort.

Chief Dongvort stated: "I commend our members for their courage, dedication, and bravery while yet again protecting our community. Their actions today are a never-ending commitment to the Smithtown Fire Department."
