Councilwoman celebrates centennial milestone of local resident

On June 21st, Councilwoman Jane Bonner joined the celebration of Dr. Nicholas H. Batuyios's 100th birthday in Farmingville, NY. The event was attended by family, friends, and community members to honor Dr. Batuyios, a prominent figure in the Greek-American community.

Dr. Batuyios received an official proclamation from the Town of Brookhaven acknowledging his lifetime achievements and service. Born in Ikaria, Greece in 1925, he fled during World War II to Cyprus before immigrating to the United States via Ellis Island. He later earned a Ph.D. in Pharmacy and Biochemistry and became Director of Research at McNeil Laboratories, contributing significantly to pharmaceutical advancements like Tylenol.

Councilwoman Bonner remarked, “Dr. Batuyios is the embodiment of the American dream,” highlighting his resilience and dedication to education and community service.

Beyond his professional success, Dr. Batuyios has been integral to Long Island's Greek-American community as President of the Pan-Icarian Brotherhood and leader in building a new church for the Greek Orthodox Church of the Assumption in Port Jefferson.

At 100 years old, Dr. Batuyios remains active with hobbies such as gardening and Greek dancing and continues to be a beloved figure among his peers.

The Town of Brookhaven honors Dr. Batuyios with best wishes for continued health and happiness.
