A lawsuit has been filed against Bath & Body Works, LLC, and The Premier Candle Corporation, concerning injuries allegedly caused by a defective candle.

According to the lawsuit filed by plaintiffs Renita Francois and McEvans Francois, they purchased a "Sweater Weather" three-wick candle from the defendants that exploded, resulting in severe burns and permanent disfigurement to Renita Francois. McEvans Francois is said to have witnessed the incident.

The complaint alleges that Bath & Body Works contracts with third-party manufacturers, including The Premier Candle Corporation, a Canada-based company. The plaintiffs claim that outsourcing production led to the use of substandard materials and insufficient safety protocols, creating a risk of explosion. They further allege that despite previous incidents involving similar candles, the defendants did not recall or redesign the product or issue appropriate warnings.

The lawsuit contends that safer design alternatives were available, including non-paraffin waxes and reinforced glass containers, which could have mitigated the risk of explosion. The plaintiffs are seeking damages exceeding $75,000.

The case was filed in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York under Case ID 25-3725.
