The Jazz Loft at Southampton will end its spring and summer concert series with a performance titled “Abstract Angularity” on August 28. The event will take place at the Avram Theater, located on the Stony Brook Southampton campus.

The concert will feature The Jazz Loft Jazz Orchestra, an 18-piece group led by Thomas Manuel. Manuel is the founder of The Jazz Loft and serves as the Stony Brook University Jazz Department Endowed Artist in Residence Fellow. According to organizers, the concert will celebrate the jazz orchestra’s range of qualities, including patience, honesty, playfulness, emotion, courage and will.

“The voice of the Jazz orchestra speaks of the characteristics which it embodies: patience, honesty, playfulness, emotion, courage and will,” said organizers.

The show is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., with tickets currently available for purchase. General admission is priced at $36; seniors can attend for $33; Stony Brook University students can purchase tickets for $18.

Organizers say that this marks a successful first season for the series at The Avram Theater. They describe it as part of ongoing efforts to revitalize the Stony Brook Southampton campus as a center for arts, community activity and education. Each performance in the series explored jazz from both historical and contemporary perspectives while combining entertainment with educational elements.

“The Jazz Loft’s mission is one of jazz preservation, education and performance, and this partnership with Stony Brook Southampton provides East End residents with the opportunity to experience and learn about great jazz first-hand,” according to organizers.
