A former employee has taken legal action against Pyramid Healthcare, alleging discrimination and retaliation in the workplace.

Plaintiff Waseme Gamba alleges that during her tenure at Pyramid Healthcare Inc., she faced repeated acts of discrimination based on her race and national origin. Gamba, who is Black and originally from Trinidad and Tobago, began working as a counselor for the company in February 2024 and was promoted to assistant executive director by April 2024. She alleges that derogatory comments about her accent were made by management personnel, including Lindsey Laudermilch, who reportedly expressed difficulty understanding Gamba’s speech and labeled her as “combative” due to her race and accent. These incidents, according to the complaint, created a hostile work environment.

Gamba claims that after voicing complaints about these actions to management and human resources, she faced escalating retaliation. This allegedly included being threatened with unwarranted discipline, pressured to sign a release of claims, and ultimately terminated in December 2024. Following her termination, Pyramid Healthcare allegedly opposed her application for unemployment benefits on false grounds, a move later rejected by the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry.

The complaint seeks compensatory damages for economic loss, emotional distress, and pain and suffering, as well as punitive damages where applicable by law. Gamba also requests injunctive relief mandating remedial actions by Pyramid Healthcare to prevent further discrimination or retaliation, attorneys’ fees and costs, and any other relief deemed just by the court.

Gamba is represented by attorney Taimur Alamgir of TA Legal Group PLLC. The case was filed in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York under Case No. 1:25-cv-05109.
