A detainee at the Nassau County Correctional Center (NCCC) has filed a lawsuit against the County of Nassau, Sheriff Anthony J. LaRocco, and unnamed corrections officers, alleging violations of his civil rights during pre-trial detention.

According to the complaint, plaintiff Isaiah Moore was attacked by another inmate on June 23, 2024. Following the assault, he claims that corrections officers used force against him instead of providing protection or medical assistance. The lawsuit alleges deliberate indifference to Moore’s safety and cites violations under 42 U.S.C. § 1983, as well as the Fourth, Eighth, and Fourteenth Amendments.

Moore seeks damages for physical injuries, including head lacerations requiring staples, and psychological trauma, such as depression and nightmares. He contends that the defendants’ failure to supervise properly contributed to the attack and subsequent injuries. The complaint also alleges broader management issues at NCCC, including understaffing, improper inmate classification, and inadequate supervision, which Moore argues have led to widespread violence among inmates.

The lawsuit includes multiple counts against the defendants, including excessive force and failure to provide necessary medical treatment. Moore seeks compensatory damages of not less than one million dollars per count, along with punitive damages and attorney’s fees.

The plaintiff is represented by attorney Sheetal Paul of Horn Wright LLP. The case was filed in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York under case ID 2:25-cv-05292.
