This weekend marked the start of the 45th edition of the Ryder Cup, and some are calling it the biggest one yet. For golf fans and players alike, it is a must-watch and must-attend event. The 2025 Ryder Cup is being held at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, drawing major celebrities from Michael Jordan to Miranda Lambert, with even former President Donald Trump in attendance.

This year, some Suffolk County students were among the lucky few able to witness the historic event firsthand. With the competition held so close to Nassau, it became a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that local fans couldn’t pass up. Among those attending was the Rocky Point High School golf team. On social media, the team shared its excitement about the chance to experience golf at its highest level, calling it, “A once-in-a-lifetime experience that will inspire our team to be their best. Go USA!!!”

A local Rocky Point parent told me "This is an experience that will last a lifetime."

The setting at Bethpage Black carried special significance. Team USA entered with hopes of reclaiming the Ryder Cup on home soil after Europe captured the trophy in 2023. The Americans had won the previous two Ryder Cups held in the United States, and with a passionate home crowd behind them in Farmingdale, expectations were high.

The Ryder Cup is one of golf’s most prestigious and unique competitions. Played every two years—traditionally in odd-numbered years—it features 12-member teams representing the US and Europe. The format combines match play and team competition, creating an atmosphere unlike any other in golf.

With stars, fans, and future golfers all converging at Bethpage Black, the 2025 Ryder Cup has already proven to be a landmark event. For those in attendance, from celebrities to local students, it is an unforgettable moment in sports history.

Bayport-Blue Point score 70 as their offense shines

It’s not every day you go to a football game and see over 100 points scored, especially in high school. It’s even rarer to see one team put up 70 points, but with Bayport-Blue Point, it somehow doesn’t feel all that shocking.
