Liam Delemo, of West Babylon, was stabbed during an altercation that broke out at an underage house party on Carlton Road on Monday, November 3rd, the Suffolk County Police Department announced.
He was rushed to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip, where he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
Delemo was just 15 years old and set to turn 16 later this month.
According to investigators, between “90 and 100” teenagers were gathered outside the home of licensed real estate salesperson Bonnie Miranda, 70, that night, with the looming Election Day meaning school would not be in session.
The party—thrown by Miranda’s grandson—violated Suffolk County’s social host law. Though no arrests have been made yet in connection with the stabbing, Miranda was charged with both the aforementioned violation and endangering the welfare of a child.
Responding officers described the scene as large and unsupervised. Detectives are still interviewing witnesses and reviewing video evidence as the search for the culprit continues.
Neighbors described the scene as “chaotic.”
“I will love you forever, my baby,” Hope Wilsun-Delemo, Liam’s mother, posted on Facebook along with a photo of her son. She is a teacher in the Brentwood School District.
A GoFundMe launched in Delemo’s honor raised more than $18,000 for his family in less than two days following his passing.
On behalf of Michael McGraw, Liam’s best friend, the fundraiser’s description reads: “He [Liam] had a way of making every day brighter, and his presence will forever be missed by all who were lucky enough to have known him.”
Police ask anyone with information regarding the case to contact the Suffolk County Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392.
May Liam’s memory carry on, and may his preventable death remind the younger generation that no act of rebellion is worth the loss of a life.
