Elementary students celebrate creativity on International Dot Day

Students in Ms. Strull’s class displayed their dots created on International Dot Day. Second-grade students in Ms. Strull, Mrs. Mocera, and Ms. Verderosa’s classes at William Floyd Elementary School recently celebrated "International Dot Day." They created their own dots using positive and negative space in the school STEM lab with Mrs. Baumiller.

International Dot Day, held on September 15, is based on the book The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds. The story encourages children to try new or challenging things and display a “can do” attitude. To prepare, students read the book and then worked on designing their dots and bringing their visions to life.

Additionally, buddies in Mrs. Elarde’s fourth-grade class and Mrs. DeFelice’s first-grade class at Tangier Smith Elementary School also participated in International Dot Day. They worked together to connect, collaborate, and create with just one dot.
