Moriches Elementary celebrates student readers with awards

Moriches Elementary School recently held an event to recognize students in grades K-5 who participated in the voluntary summer reading program. The program aimed to motivate kindergarten and first-grade students to learn 40 grade-level words before the start of the school year. Meanwhile, students from second to fifth grade were encouraged to engage in various reading challenges such as reading outdoors, selecting a book adapted into a movie, and exploring non-fiction books.

Participants in the program were rewarded with additional playground time, certificates, and ice pops. This initiative was designed to promote literacy among young learners by making reading a fun and rewarding activity.

"Students had a great time celebrating their well-earned rewards! Great job, students! Keep on reading!"

The school also shared photos capturing moments of the celebration for families and the community to enjoy.
