Grout repair is a common task for homeowners dealing with loose tiles or stained and cracked grout. Regrouting can help maintain the structure of tiled surfaces and prevent tiles from falling out. This article outlines the steps for repairing tile grout and offers guidance on when to seek professional services.

To start, it's important to have the right tools. A typical grout repair kit should include items like a mixing bucket, caulk gun, gloves, grout float, grout saw, grout sponge, paint and mortar mixer, and putty knife.

The process of regrouting involves five key steps:

1. **Preparation**: Clear your workspace by moving furniture if necessary and covering surfaces with tarps or drop cloths. Ensure proper ventilation by opening windows and vacuuming debris. Wear gloves and protective eyewear while gathering all necessary tools.

2. **Removing Old Grout**: It's crucial to remove existing grout before applying new filler to ensure better adhesion and a smoother finish. Use a grout saw to eliminate cracked or discolored fillings, then clean the area with a grout sponge.

3. **Mixing New Grout**: Aim for a mixture that resembles fresh cement when mixing new grout. Adjust the consistency by adding more powder or water as needed.

4. **Applying New Grout**: Use a grout float tool to spread the mixture evenly across the lines you're working on.

5. **Cleaning Residue and Sealing**: After setting the mixture, wipe away excess residue with a sponge. Allow it to harden before applying sealant.

There are three common types of grout used in homes:

- Sanded Grout: Ideal for filling gaps larger than 1/8 inch due to its durability.

- Unsanded Grout: Suitable for smaller gaps under 1/8 inch wide.

- Acrylic Latex Grout: Easy to use but less durable; best for sensitive surfaces like ceramic.

The cost of grout repair varies based on factors such as labor costs, type of grout used, and extent of damage. Prices range from $1-$4 per square foot for restoration (cleaning/sealing) up to $3-$25 per square foot for full replacement.

For complex projects beyond DIY capabilities, hiring professionals like Mr. Handyman is recommended as they specialize in bathroom tile repairs and kitchen regrouting services.

As the fantasy season starts to dwindle down it gets harder and harder to find gems off of the waiver wire. Sure, you will be able to grab the next hot thing from AAA when the rosters expand in a few weeks, but they are unproven talent. In order to get proven MLB talent off of waivers, or in a trade that doesn't give them their value back, you have to be very shrewd.
