William Floyd art teachers display works in annual faculty exhibit

Robert Taiani Vice President | William Floyd School District

Art teachers from the William Floyd School District recently gathered at the Sue Hersh Art Gallery in William Floyd High School to present their work. The annual faculty exhibit, held throughout October, showcased original pieces by several district art educators.

Theresa Bianco, chairperson of fine arts for the William Floyd School District, explained the purpose behind this tradition: “This tradition started as a way to give students an opportunity to see what materials and techniques their art teachers use, and that as artists you always have to continue to practice your craft.”

The exhibit featured a range of techniques and mediums such as watercolor, acrylic, oil paint, solar prints, digital prints, and sculpture. It provided a creative outlet for teachers while also inspiring students.

Amanda Maertz, an art teacher at Moriches Elementary School, shared her thoughts on the event: “It’s a great opportunity for us to show off our skills, not just as educators but as practicing artists. It lets our students see the potential to make art outside the four walls of our classrooms.”

Contributors to the exhibit included Erin Almeida, Theresa Bianco, Sandra Bretton, James Carson, Tori Golino, Tina Higgins, Timothy Kosta, Melanie Kuklis, Stephanie Laughlin-Taisler, Erika Licausi, Amanda Maertz, Kathryn Odell-Hamilton Eileen Randazzo Jillian Santoro Abigail Shapiro and Gregory Williams.
