Neurologist Dr. Solomon Khamishon and Nurse Practitioner Marret Anderson from Stony Brook Medicine spoke at the Ronkonkoma Rotary Club about the warning signs and symptoms of a stroke, intervention methods and treatment protocols, and the importance of stroke prevention.

Stony Brook Medicine recommends remembering the acronym FAST concerning the warning signs of a stroke:

F—Face Drooping

A—Arm Weakness

S—Speech Difficulty

T—Time to Call 9-1-1

They also shared that other stroke warning signs include: sudden confusion, sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes, sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination, and a sudden severe headache with no known cause, often described as the worst headache of your life.

Stony Brook does have a support group for people who survived a stroke. You can call 631.638.2638 for more information.
