Setauket House Fire

On Saturday December 23rd, 2023 at approximately 10:02hrs the Setauket Fire Department was activated for a structure fire at 18 Beaverdale Lane, in Stony Brook. As chiefs went on the road, dispatch advised that the caller stated smoke and flames were visible via a Ring Doorbell Camera. Suffolk County Police arrived on scene and advised that there was black smoke coming from the single-story home. A member on scene advised the department of an active kitchen fire, recommending the working fire. Upon arrival of Setauket Chief 30, smoke from the eaves was observed, a working fire was then transmitted. All occupants were evacuated. A dog was confirmed to be trapped in the blaze.

Upon arrival of fire crews, lines were stretched and put into operation. All visible fire was knocked down at 09:56. The dog did succumb to the fire. There were no reported injuries. The cause of the fire was under investigation by the Brookhaven Town Fire Marshals Office. Mutual aid was provided by the Nesconset, Centereach, and Stony Brook Fire Departments.

Selden Fire Department was activated to standby at Setauket Station 3. PJEMS and Stony Brook University Ambulances also provided assistance.
