The Fifth Annual Veterans Day Parade, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce of the Moriches, marched down Main Street in East Moriches on Sunday with a huge crowd welcoming the participants, including the Center Moriches High School Band, local fire departments, scouts, and elected officials from throughout the area.

Leading the parade to the Soldiers and Sailors Park was Grand Marshal Charles Wohr, who was nominated for the role by American Legion Post 1545. The honoree joined the U.S. Air Force shortly after graduating from Farmingdale High School in 1948 and trained as an aircraft and engine mechanic. He served in Libya and flew missions in support of nuclear weapons testing on the Bikini Island Atoll, as well as missions to South Korea during the war. The East Moriches veteran worked in various defense industry positions and, upon retirement, became a volunteer driver with the Disabled American Veterans.

Also marching in the parade were Brookhaven Supervisor Edward Romaine, Councilman Daniel Panico, state Senator Dean Murray, Assemblywoman Jodi Giglio, Legislator James Mazzarella, and council candidate Karen Dunne Kesnig.
