Stony Brook University leaders played a significant role at the 2024 Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities (APLU) Annual Meeting held in Orlando, Florida. The event highlighted the university's dedication to advancing higher education, research, and public service.

Laura Lindenfeld, Dean of the Stony Brook University School of Communication and Journalism and Executive Director of the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science, participated in a panel discussion co-hosted by APLU’s Council on Governmental Affairs (CGA) and Council on Strategic Communications (CSC). The discussion focused on “Rebuilding Trust in Public Universities: Steps to Reclaim the Narrative and Show Value.” In another session, Braden Hosh, Vice President for Educational and Institutional Effectiveness, contributed to a panel titled “Enhancing Student Engagement: Using Student Feedback to Inform Strategic Messaging.”

Lauren Brookmeyer was appointed as the new Chair of APLU CGA. This appointment emphasizes Stony Brook University's active involvement in shaping federal policy related to higher education. Kevin Gardner, Vice President for Research, was elected to a three-year term on APLU’s Council on Research Executive Committee. Heather Banoub, Assistant Vice President for Community Relations, also attended the meeting.

APLU is an organization comprising nearly 250 public research universities and affiliated institutions across North America.
