A Copiague man has been sentenced to 17 years in prison for the rape of his 9-year-old stepdaughter. The sentencing was announced by Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney, following the man's guilty plea in September 2024.

"Today, justice has been served, not only for the victim, but for all children in our community who deserve to feel safe," said District Attorney Tierney. "The defendant’s actions were reprehensible, and the sentence reflects the gravity of the harm done to an innocent child. Our priority will always be to protect our most vulnerable and to ensure that those who commit such heinous acts face the consequences of their actions."

According to the investigation and subsequent guilty plea, the incident occurred in February 2023 when the defendant sexually abused his stepdaughter while her mother was at work. The child reported the abuse to her mother after becoming anxious about being left alone with him again. The mother then confronted the defendant and contacted law enforcement, leading to his arrest.

On September 20, 2024, he pleaded guilty before Acting Supreme Court Justice Karen M. Wilutis to Rape in the First Degree, a Class B felony.
