A Suffolk County man has been found guilty of sexually abusing his daughter, according to an announcement by District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney. The 56-year-old resident of Islip was convicted after a jury trial on charges including Sexual Abuse in the First Degree.

District Attorney Tierney stated, "The verdict today holds the defendant accountable for his horrific actions. Our thoughts remain with the victim as she continues to heal from this unimaginable trauma."

The case came to light in February 2023 when the then 17-year-old victim reported the abuse to a teacher. Law enforcement learned that the abuse began in 2020 when she was 15 years old. Evidence included DNA analysis of clothing worn by the victim during an incident in February 2023, which confirmed the presence of the defendant's semen.

The defendant was arrested on February 17, 2023, by members of the Suffolk County Police Department. On December 12, 2024, he was convicted before Supreme Court Justice Timothy P. Mazzei on two counts of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree and one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

Judge Mazzei has remanded him until sentencing on January 13, 2025. The defendant could face up to 14 years in prison and will be required to register as a sex offender. He is represented by attorney Don Savatta.

Assistant District Attorneys Melissa Grier and Johanna Poremba from the Child Abuse and Domestic Violence Bureau prosecuted the case. Detective Lisa Hofelich from the Suffolk County Police Department’s Special Victims Squad led the investigation.
