William Floyd Middle School recently recognized eighth-grader Toby Nicosia as their "Artist of the Month." Known for his vibrant and unique artistic style, Toby enjoys experimenting with colors and creating pieces that stand out. His preferred mediums include pencils, colored pencils, and textiles, with a particular interest in illustrating people. Among his notable works is a tote bag crafted from crocheted plastic bags.

Theresa Bianco, Fine Arts Chairperson at William Floyd School District (WFSD), praised Toby's creativity: “Toby’s talent is evident when looking at the beautiful artwork and mural that is in front of us, but the passion and curiosity of materials, like seen in the tote bag Toby created from plastic bags, is what is going to make a successful artist.”

Art teachers Stephanie Taisler and Timothy Kosta also commended Toby's progress over his three years at WFMS. They noted his perseverance in overcoming artistic challenges: “As artists, we sometimes wrestle with a concept that we want to express visually, but through perseverance we can reach a breakthrough,” they said. “Toby has done just that throughout the years here at WFMS.”

Toby had three artworks featured in a districtwide art show and received recognition for set painting and t-shirt design for the school's production of Annie Jr. He is active in several school clubs including the National Junior Honor Society and the Safe Space Coalition.
